During the Term 3 School Holidays Year 10 student Brandon Tarkka completed a 61km hike through a section of the Cape to Cape track, Redgate to Cape Leeuwin with three other Venturer Scouts aged 15 and 16 years old. They spent four days and three nights totally independent from the other hikers apart from a welfare check on the second night to refill water and check for any injuries. Brandon and the other hikers carried packs (weighing around 16kg) on the hike containing their tent, cooking equipment, food, 5 litres of water and first aid supplies.
Venturer Scouts challenges young people to expand their comfort zones, with a focus on:
- Seeking new challenges and adventures
- Exploring independence
- Facing and overcoming fears
- Identifying and leading positive social change
- Developing a sense of self
Congratulations to Brandon on completing the 61km hike challenge – we can’t wait to hear about your next adventure!
