ATAR Literature students’ night at the theatre

13 September 2025

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA’s) production of Antigone at the State Theatre was a powerful and engaging experience for our Year 11 and 12 ATAR Literature students, who attended the play with their teachers Ms. Ana Vranjes, Ms. Sophie Snee, and Ms. Kristie French.

Performed by WAAPA’s graduating acting students, the modern, minimalistic production brought Sophocles’ classic tragedy to vivid life, highlighting the conflict between personal beliefs and political power. With creative, interactive staging and strong performances, the show offered our Literature students a valuable insight into how live theatre can deepen their understanding of dramatic texts studied in class.

“The play was absolutely breathtaking. I think the minimalistic set captured the audience and made them able to appreciate the performances more, which was amazing to see.

“The actors themselves did an amazing job and were able to hold full composure from the beginning to the end of the play!” – Anna (Year 12)
