Be a part of the Production: Seeking volunteers to help with the construction of costumes

25 February 2021

Our College is excited to present the stage show The Addams Family but we need your help to make the show a resounding success.

One of the most challenging mission of every show is the multitude of costumes required for the cast and the magnitude to sew and construct the costumes.
So in order for us to help our students ‘dress the part’, we’re seeking willing volunteers (no sewing experience necessary) to help with the following:

  • Hand sewing (buttons, embellishments etc)
  • Painting
  • Labelling and sorting
  • Ironing
And for those that do sew – machine sewing and overlocking

As the saying goes, many hands make light work so if you are able to assist or have a friend or family member who is also able to assist, we would certainly appreciate all the help we can get.

Sewing workshops are run on Sundays in E block at the College from 10am to 4pm while the students are rehearsing and of course if you would like to take some sewing home, we would certainly welcome that. During these sessions, we will provide coffee, tea and biscuits while we encourage everyone to bring along a small plate to share to make it feel like a morning tea / lunch get-together.

How to sign up as a volunteer
To sign up as a volunteer, you will need to

  • Complete this online Production Volunteer Form here which requires you to some personal contact information, emergency contact information and provide a copy of your Working with Children card
  • Once you’ve completed the form, email the College’s Costume Coordinator Pauline Van Der Westhuizen at pauline.vanderwest@cewa.edu.au and say you’ve completed the form
  • Following the confirmation, you’ll be added to an email contact list where you will be kept informed on a weekly basis as to where we are up to and what need completing

Please note that all volunteers must have a current Working with Children card. If you don’t have one, you will need to pick up a form at a Post Office to fill out and lodge at the post office. If you’re just volunteering, select ‘volunteer’ in section 5 of the form. Unfortunately the $11 fee cannot be reimbursed by the College. You can provide a photocopy of the receipt as interim proof as the physical card may take up to 4 weeks to arrive at which time you will need to provide us with a scanned copy / photo of the physical card.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any of your queries. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
