Building Connections, Creating Community: The P&F Spirit

13 October 2025

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding year, the La Salle College Parents and Friends would like to take a moment to celebrate the amazing parents who have given their time, energy, and heart to support our school community. Every event is made brighter thanks to the hands and hearts of our volunteers.

Being part of the P&F isn’t just about fundraising, it’s about connection. It’s about building friendships, creating memories, and showing our young people the value of giving back. Here, a few of our wonderful parents, who share their reflections on what being part of the La Salle P&F has meant to them this year.

This was my first year helping with school events and I really enjoyed meeting other parents and being part of such a warm and welcoming community. Volunteering also inspired Sidney to get involved and volunteer in school activities like the Oliver play and handing the flowers and donuts during the community drive throughs. We bonded through the experience, and it was wonderful to see how much she enjoyed volunteering too — making it even more special for the both of us.

This year I helped out with the P&F as secretary and got involved in planning the Bingo Night and setting up for both that and the Year 12 Graduation Night. I really enjoyed being part of it all and getting to know other parents from the school. Volunteering also gave me a better understanding of how the school runs, which has helped me support my child and share those same values at home.

This year I helped out at Bingo night, Father’s Day donut handout and setting up for Graduation. I am very grateful to La Salle College for all the opportunities the school has provided to my three children. I find helping out with the P&F is a great opportunity to give a little back to the school. I work fulltime and appreciate that there is no pressure to help out at every event, only when I can. It’s great fun and a great way to stay connected with other parents and with what’s going on at the school.

This year I managed to attend some of the P&F meetings and was lucky to participate in helping with the Mothers Day flowers preparation, setting up of quiz night and graduation and will be helping with the Carols. In previous years of my kids schooling I didn't feel I had to capacity to help out much. Now that my kids are a little older I have challenged myself the past two years to become a bit more involved. It's beautiful to see the behind the scenes work of the school community and what goes into creating these special days for the school community. I'm usually quite introverted and hadn't realised how little adult conversation and company I had been having in my parenting journey. This year being involved as a netball mum/team manager, a P&F member and a music mum. I committed more of my time to my kid's school worlds, and I felt the benefits myself of feeling more and more part of a beautiful community. Everyone was welcoming and lovely. I've built confidence in myself and I have seen the confidence in my children develop from this too because they too have stepped up and been more involved and more engaged with their activities. The power of role modelling, showing up when it's out of your comfort zone and realising you have gifts to bring to the table too to add to the community is amazing. I'm also in awe now of how much time and love staff and other parents give to the community

I am only new to volunteering at La Salle, but it has made me realise how great the school is and how much time and effort goes into every event. And it’s all about the kids! I’ve had the opportunity to meet some other parents and teachers, who are like minded as well as motivated to make events fun and special. Happy to continue to help whenever needed.

I’ve been involved with the La Salle College Parents and Friends Committee since it re-formed in 2022, and it’s been such a rewarding experience. Over the years, I’ve helped out with a mix of fundraising and community events, from Quiz Night and Bingo Night to welcoming new families and Year 7 parents with our Coffee and Cookies mornings. I’ve also loved lending a hand at Lasallian Evenings, Mother’s Day flower handouts, and the Father’s Day “Drive-Through Donuts,” as well as supporting College events like the Year 12 Graduation and Carols by Candlelight. One of the best parts of being involved is seeing my daughter’s face light up when she spots me around campus, it makes me proud to give back to a school that offers so many wonderful opportunities to its students. I’ve met some amazing people through the P&F, and those friendships, along with the sense of community we’ve built, make every bit of effort worthwhile.

Since joining the re-established La Salle Parents and Friends Committee in 2022, I’ve built strong relationships with staff, parents, and students, fostering community and new friendships. My involvement has positively influenced my child by demonstrating the value of helping others. In the time with the P&F I’ve contributed to various events, including Annual Bingo/Quiz Fundraising nights, Welcoming Year 7 Parents and Carol’s by Candlelight, which has been rewarding both within the school and the wider community. It is gratifying to know that the dedication of the P&F directly benefits someone.

Volunteering with the Parents and Friends Committee this year has been incredibly rewarding. One highlight was helping serve breakfast for the Vinnies sleep out. It was my second time assisting the Year 8’s. Although simple, being part of Touching Hearts—giving up my time to support those in need—felt meaningful. The early morning smiles from attendees made it all worthwhile! Another standout was the Australian-themed Bingo Night. Laughter filled the room as families enjoyed quirky calls, prizes, and raffles. The best dressed/dance competition added even more fun. Seeing parents and staff having a blast together really showed the strength and spirit of the La Salle community. Volunteering not only allows us to share these experiences with our children but also helps the Parents and Friends Committee create memorable school events. Every hour contributed strengthens our community and ensures these special events continue year after year. Countdown is on for Carols by Candlelight—another amazing night listening to our students perform and raise money for the less fortunate.

We’re so grateful to every parent, staff member, and student who has supported the P&F this year. Each contribution, big or small, helps strengthen the Lasallian spirit that makes our community so special.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, we’d love to have you join us in 2026. Whether you can spare an hour or a day, there’s always a place for you in the P&F family. Together, we can continue to make La Salle College a warm, welcoming, and connected community for all.
