Graeme Wood Shield La Salle College vs Swan Christian College Match Report

25 February 2021

Match report written by Zac Wareing

The opening round of the Graeme Wood Shield was an exciting match!

La Salle Senior Boys cricket team took on our neighbours Swan Christian in a T20 Match last Tuesday with Year 12 Adam Brock and Year 11 Josh Chitty appointed as Captain and Vice-Captain by our two new head coaches Mr. Dunne and Mr. Cernoch.

An exciting feature this season was the addition of the first ever La Salle College baggy greens!

Swan Christian had an extremely good start with the bat as their openers Mitch Pope and captain Joel Maslen put on 120 runs in the opening partnership including a six that unfortunately smashed Ms. Lush’s car windscreen.

Connor Haselby bounced back with the ball to get the first wicket of the day shortly followed by Tyler Masons delivery to get Swan Christian Captain out before they ended up with a challenging score of 195 runs.

La Salle had a bad start with the bat with openers Zac Wareing and Josh Chitty getting out early putting Swan in a good position. However, star athlete Max Chipper smashed 90 runs off 40 balls, including hitting 26 off one over, to give La Salle a chance at miracle win.

Unfortunately, La Salle didn’t get there in time and lost by 15 runs (180 in total). However, it was a great first game and we cannot wait for the next game against John Septimius Roe.
