Italian Australian E-pal program

9 May 2022

The Year 9 Italian Class is currently participating in an exchange program with two high schools in Italy.

These schools are the Istituto Maria Ausiliatrice in Torino (Turin) and Istituto Santa Marta in Firenze (Florence). On Wednesday the 30 March, the students had their first Teams meeting with their Italian e-pal from Turin and conversed on video with them. Eighteen students in a Primo Liceo class (14 years old) and their teacher Ms Sara Toso were enthusiastic about virtually meeting an Australian student their age.

Everyone connected for the first meeting, even the students who were isolating at home and nervously but happily chatted to their new e-pal in English and in Italian. Topics discussed included school, hobbies and interests, pets and what life is like in general.

The following week on Wednesday 6 April we connected with the students in a Primo Liceo class in Florence and, again, it was such an exciting experience for the students and their teacher Ms Daniela Ulpindo.

Our students are loving this opportunity to communicate in another language, with someone their age but from a different background, and getting to know each other and develop an intercultural, international friendship.
