Our Year 12 Earth and Environmental Science students recently visited Kalgoorlie to learn about gold mining in Western Australia. The camp provided a dynamic opportunity to strengthen their class work knowledge and gain valuable insight into potential career paths.
Students had the unique experience of going underground and seeing how they use equipment like the jumbo drill, air leg, boggers, and remote-controlled trucks. They also visited the massive Kalgoorlie Super Pit, which is always an incredible sight to see. One of the highlights was visiting the Mungari mine, where the general manager led a tour and talked about how they care for the environment and protect Indigenous heritage sites.
When they weren’t busy exploring mine sites, students enjoyed sitting around the campfire in the evenings.
Thank you to Mr Gerrish and our Science teachers for supporting our Year 12 Earth and Environmental Science students on this incredible learning experience.
