Language shapes our perceptions and influences the scope of our thoughts. Learning a new language extends beyond communication; it fosters an understanding and appreciation of different cultures.Â
At La Salle College, we promoted Languages Week in Week 3 this term to raise awareness of the benefits of language acquisition, to celebrate the linguistic diversity within our community, to encourage cross-cultural understanding and to recognise the efforts of our students and educators.
Our activities during the week included:
- Staff Prayer with a focus on Languages and Cultural Diversity
- Year 7 Italian and Japanese students designing their own Languages Week
- Posters to commemorate the event
- A PCG quiz focusing on global knowledge
- An indoor soccer match between staff and students
- A Ping-Pong tournament
- An international food day at the Canteen
- A Languages Week Food stall of Italian pizza and gelato, along with Japanese mochi
We wish to thank all students and staff for embracing our events during the week and leave the final word to Federico Fellini, a famous Italian film director:
“A different language is a different vision of life”
