Making the most of their Year 7 Experience

18 February 2021

Filled with enthusiasm and positivity, our Year 7 students made the most of their Year 7 Experience despite the delayed start to the academic year and the COVID restrictions in place.

Held over three days from 10 to 12 February 2021 at both our College grounds and the Ern Halliday Recreation Camp, students participated in a variety of activities as they got to know their peers, form new friendships, and settle into their respective Houses.

Benildus, Brigid, Jordan and La Salle Houses started their experience at Ern Halliday while McCormack, MacKillop, Mutien and Solomon Houses commenced at the College before swapping places.

While at Ern Halliday, students took part in team building games and activities and learnt their Houses chants – something they will use often throughout their time at the College. They also got the opportunity to have a shot at archery, participated in beach games, swimming as well as a quiz night.

Every student was asked to write a letter to their future self, a letter that will be presented back to them when they are in Year 12. They were also asked to lend a hand (or a part of it) in creating their Year 7 Group artwork – a canvas of thumbprints of each student in their House colour.

At the College, several sessions were run by both College and external staff that taught students to understand and reflect on what it means to be a Lasallian, how to improve their study skills and time management skills and how to use their new IT devices and stay safe online.

Throughout the three-day camp, students also got the opportunity to earn House points in activities ranging from tug-of-war challenges, the quiz night to planking and being the fastest group to line up.

It was a great three days, and a lot of credit must go to our amazing Year 7s who despite needing to adapt to the COVID restrictions in place, never failed to have fun and make it an enjoyable experience not just for themselves but everyone else around.
