Our Touching Hearts Program 5000 Meals has won a Merit Award at the recent Catholic Education of Western Australia QCE Awards in the category of Catholic Education.

5000 Meals is a Christian service-learning project undertaken by Year 11 students at La Salle College as part of the wider Touching Hearts Program.

In this project, students prepare nutritious meals using ingredients sourced from rescued food for people living in poverty. These meals are then frozen and distributed in collaboration with a local soup kitchen where other La Salle students are volunteering.

Through participation in this project students are encouraged to follow the leadership of St John Baptist de La Salle as they raise their own awareness of the needs of “the least, the last, the lost” in the local community and act with and for those in need to address that need.
