“Your next chapter awaits with possibility, aplenty.” The theme for this year’s AATE/ALEA National Conference held in Adelaide acknowledged the significant recent changes in the teaching and learning of English and Literacy in our schools. Change can sometimes be daunting, however encourages flexibility and opens doors we never dreamed possible.
Our Leader of Learning for English and Languages Amy Boughton attended the Conference on an English Teachers Association Western Australia (ETAWA) scholarship. Discussions around culturally responsive pedagogy and (re)discovering counter narratives challenged educators to support students in seeing themselves reflected in story.
Generative AI of course featured, in stimulating discussion around the ethics and ideologies driving the use of AI in educational settings. On the practical side, Amy has brought back with her lots of ideas for more creative planning and assessment for increasing student engagement.
Amy is very grateful for the opportunity to attend the Conference provided by the ETAWA scholarship and looks forward to implementing ideas into her leadership practice.
