As the La Salle College community prepares to farewell our Principal Ms Giovanna Fiume, we do so with deep gratitude, admiration, and heartfelt thanks for her leadership, vision and unwavering commitment over the past six and a half years.
From the outset of her time at La Salle, Giovanna brought with her a strong sense of purpose, rooted in our Catholic faith and Lasallian values. She led with authenticity, integrity and compassion, ensuring that the Gospel values of Faith, Excellence, and Service were not just spoken but lived each day in our College. Under her guidance, La Salle has grown into a more connected, resilient, and future-focused school community.
Giovanna’s tenure has been marked by transformative initiatives across every aspect of College life. Her dedication to strategic improvement has resulted in significant outcomes aligned with the College’s Vision for Learning pedagogical principles of Courage, Connection, Engagement and Flexibility. These principles are now embedded in the College’s teaching and learning practices, empowering both students and staff to strive for excellence in a supportive and inclusive environment.
During her time as Principal, Giovanna led La Salle College through a period of growth and renewal across faith, learning, wellbeing, community, and facilities.
- She strengthened the College’s Catholic identity by supporting staff formation, liturgies, and retreats that deepened the spiritual life of the school and nurtured students in faith and compassion.
- Her commitment to educational excellence saw the rollout of the Building Literacy Skills (BLS) program and the adoption of the Berry Street Education Model, embedding student-centred and trauma-informed practices into learning.
- Giovanna championed student wellbeing, with initiatives including Youth Mental Health First Aid training for staff to better support students’ mental health and resilience.
- She fostered a stronger, more connected community through renewed family engagement, student voice initiatives, and the re-instatement of the Parents & Friends group.
- With a clear vision for sustainable growth, Giovanna also led key capital works including the Boarding House project, a College-wide uniform review, and environmental initiatives – all carried out with sensible stewardship of resources.
Throughout these achievements, Giovanna always remained focused on the heart of the College’s mission: nurturing our children to become confident, compassionate, and capable contributors to society. Her care for students, her high expectations for staff, and her belief in the potential of every member of our College community have left an enduring legacy.
As Giovanna moves on to lead Salvado Catholic College, we know she will continue to serve Catholic education with the same energy and grace she has given so generously to La Salle. We extend our best wishes and prayers to her for this next chapter, confident that her impact will continue to be felt long into the future.
Thank you, Giovanna. You have truly touched hearts and transformed lives.Â
