Principal’s Message

12 November 2024

Dear Families and Friends,

At La Salle College, we view excellence as more than just high achievements. It’s about every student striving to be their best selves, embracing challenges, and growing through every experience. This journey of personal excellence is unique to each student, and we are privileged to support them as they set and reach their goals with resilience and integrity.

On Wednesday, 30 October 2024, we gathered for our final whole-school assembly of the year. This was a special occasion to honour and celebrate our students’ many achievements and reflect on a year marked by their dedication, growth and success.

Our morning began with the Sports Award Breakfast, where we recognised students who have shown outstanding commitment and sportsmanship throughout the year. Seeing their progress and hearing their stories of teamwork, perseverance, and personal bests was inspiring. We are incredibly proud of each student who has represented our College in sports throughout 2024.

During the assembly, we continued to celebrate the achievements of students across sports and various other fields:

In Academics, students who excelled in the Australian Mathematics Competition were recognised for their analytical thinking and commitment to academic challenge. Their achievements reflect the hard work and curiosity they bring to their studies. I would like to congratulate Year 10 student Peter Mills, who was awarded the highest school result and a Certificate of High Distinction, placing him in the top 3% of all students across Australia.

In the Arts, students who participated in the Catholic Performing Arts and showcased their talents in music, drama, dance, and visual arts were awarded certificates of excellence. Their performances brought creativity, joy, and spirit to our community, reminding us of the power of the arts to inspire and connect.

In the Mock Trial Competition, our students demonstrated sharp critical thinking and collaborative skills as they navigated legal arguments and court procedures. Their experiences in this program have enriched their confidence, teamwork and ethical decision-making.

Another highlight was Write a Book in a Day, in which a team of students committed to creating a complete story within 24 hours. This challenge required creativity and remarkable collaboration, and we commend them for taking on such a unique project with passion and determination.

Additionally, we introduced the Student Executive Team for 2025, a group of dedicated young leaders who will uphold our values and guide our community in the coming year. Please join me in congratulating the Student Executive Team:

  • College Captains: Xeline Dequina and Hudson Spackman
  • College Vice-Captains: Freya Van Der Steen and Matthew Moyo

Thank you to all families and staff members who continually support our students, helping them to grow, excel and find fulfilment in their achievements.

2025 College Advisory Council

The Annual College Community meeting was held on Monday, 11 November 2024, during which the College Advisory Council was elected. The Advisory Council Members for 2025 are Mrs Carla Turner, Mr Darren Di Cera, Mr John Grover, Mr Peter Markham and Mrs Harshitha Naidu.

I would like to thank all members of the 2024 College Advisory Council for their generosity and passion in maintaining and enhancing La Salle College’s work. I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Stacey Jackson, Glenn Stroud and Sherrilyn Shaw-Mills, whose terms of service have concluded. Their dedication and insight have greatly enriched our community, and their contributions will have a lasting impact on our college.

I particularly wish to acknowledge Stacey Jackson, who has served as Chair of the Advisory Council for five years. Stacey’s leadership and unwavering commitment have guided our Council through times of growth and change, helping shape the future of our college. Her influence has been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for her service and dedication.

As we approach the final weeks of the academic year, I encourage all students to demonstrate excellence in every area of College life. Let’s finish the year strong, celebrating our growth and achievements with resilience and integrity.

To our parents and guardians, thank you for your invaluable support. Your partnership is essential to our students’ success, and we’re grateful for your continued encouragement as we complete this school year together.

God bless!

Giovanna Fiume
