Principal’s Message

8 April 2025

Dear Families and Friends,

Monday 7th April 2025 was the anniversary of the death of St John Baptiste de La Salle, our College Patron. This acknowledgement of his anniversary of death allows us to reflect on the incredible heritage we have been privileged to share, as we serve each other. With a genuine concern for the poor, St John Baptiste de La Salle was a man who challenged, was challenged and provided hope for those who would have been without hope. So too is our calling.

His Holiness, Pope Francis (2017) spoke about hope as a characteristic of our faith. He reminds us that

“...Feeling hopeful does not mean to be optimistically naïve and ignore the tragedy humanity is facing. Hope is the virtue of a heart that doesn't lock itself into darkness, that doesn't dwell on the past, does not simply get by in the present, but is able to see a tomorrow. Hope is the door that opens onto the future. Hope is a humble, hidden seed of life that, with time, will develop into a large tree. ...And it can do so much, because a tiny flicker of light that feeds on hope is enough to shatter the shield of darkness. A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you. And then there will be another "you," and another "you," and it turns into an "us”. And so, does hope begin when we have an "us?" No. Hope began with one "you”. When there is an "us”, there begins a revolution.”

As a College community we work together to bring hope to the poor, those that suffer and to one another. There is no doubt that over the past term, I have witnessed the light of hope within our students shining brightly across a range of many different areas. It is this positive view of life that can be found within the Gospel values. In a time where youth receive somewhat negative publicity, we must remember that our Catholic tradition is always optimistic about human nature.

With hope in our hearts and minds, we look towards the beginning of our Easter period. It is important that we remember that Easter is the feast of the Church, when we rejoice at the triumph of Christ and the hope that He brings. Our faith is built on Jesus and his resurrection. Jesus is truly arisen and is with us still. Again, I encourage all families to attend the services within their own parishes and communities this weekend.

I thank all families for their support for what has been an exceptionally busy term, and I wish all our students and staff, and their families, a happy and Holy Easter and a well-earned holiday break.

May the glory and the promise of this joyous time of year bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear. And may Christ, Our Risen Saviour, always be there by your side to bless you most abundantly and be your loving guide.

Ms Giovanna Fiume
Principal
