Principal’s Message

27 June 2025

Dear families and friends,

The Quality Catholic Education School Review (QCESR) is a system-wide initiative that provides an opportunity for a panel of educators, external to the school, to affirm, challenge, and report on the improvement journey at the school.

In Week 7 of Term 2, a panel from CEWA undertook a review of our community. As part of the process the College was invited to reflect on our journey over the past three years and our aims for the coming three years. Panel members also interviewed selected staff and students from across the year groups and met with our Parent and Friends Association, together with the College’s Advisory Council. At the end of the process the panel met with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss its final report. The report was overwhelmingly affirming, acknowledging the hard work of our staff and students, as well as the strong partnership with our families and parishes.

As Principal, I know that our community is a very special place, but it was wonderful to be able to showcase the many outstanding initiatives that occur at La Salle College to the members of the QCESR panel and the broader CEWA community.

An excerpt from the report...

La Salle exemplifies a school that is committed to a holistic approach to learning, pastoral care, catechetical experiences, community relationships and environmental stewardship, highlighting its strong Catholic Identity and dedication to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for all students.

The College is to be commended for the advancements made in recent years. Clearly the students, staff and parents that the panel met with, are extremely proud of their school.

La Salle College places a strong emphasis on the well-being and holistic development of each child. The school strives to create a nurturing environment where students feel valued, safe and supported. This was supported by students and parents, who stated that students feel safe at school and are comfortable raising concerns with staff.

The College has cultivated strong relationships with parents, caregivers, families, parish and wider community. The school’s commitment to transparency and collaboration is evident through its engagement with the School Advisory Council and a revamped Parents and Friends Association. This inclusive approach ensures that stakeholders are valued participants in shaping the school’s future. It is evident that through consultation with all school groups there is transparency and collective decision making.

The charism of St John Baptist de La Salle continues to be expressed both in words and actions. The dignity of the human person is extravagantly showcased in the multitude of opportunities that enable students to exploit their gifts.

La Salle College encourages students to have input into school life, ensuring they feel valued and important in having a voice in the school’s direction. The revamped student leadership model allows for student voice and the opportunity to build leadership capabilities in students from Years 7 – 12.

The expansion of certification and endorsed programs has enabled student learning to be targeted, enhanced and recognised. The broad range of opportunities are valued by the La Salle community with all pathways offering rigour and validity for future options. Results indicate that there has been growth in literacy enabling greater numbers of students to fulfil WACE certification. The College’s OLNA results are quite outstanding.

When asked if they felt that their students are safe at school, parents responded in the affirmative as the well-being framework is embedded in all facets of daily life and they cited examples of students being encouraged to have a voice in their learning. Students feel comfortable in approaching staff and they are heard.

Thank you...

As I prepare to leave La Salle College, I do so with a profound sense of gratitude and pride. I will take with me many cherished memories and remain forever thankful for the relationships, shared vision, and strong sense of belonging that define this school. It has been a privilege to serve this vibrant and faith-filled community—a place where hearts are touched, minds are inspired, and lives are transformed.

Over the years, I have witnessed the remarkable spirit of our students, who bring energy, compassion, and leadership to every corner of the College. Their voices, their growth, and their commitment to embodying our Lasallian values have been a constant source of inspiration.

To our dedicated staff—thank you for your unwavering commitment to nurturing each student with care, creativity, and professionalism. Your passion for learning and your belief in every child’s potential have fostered a culture of excellence and belonging.

To our families and broader community—your support, trust, and collaboration have been the foundation of our shared success. Together, we have built a school where every person is known, valued, and empowered.

As I hand over the leadership of this remarkable College, I do so with confidence in its future and deep appreciation for the journey we have shared. La Salle will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in me and for allowing me to be part of your story. May the Lasallian spirit continue to guide and bless this wonderful College in the years to come.

With sincere thanks and every blessing,

Giovanna Fiume | Principal
