Students shine in athletics and equestrian

Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre was host to the combined Junior and Open aged Australian Athletics Championships for able-bodied and para-athletes from 12 – 19 April 2021.

Thousands of track and field athletes of all ages competed in the event including three students from La Salle College.

Year 11 student Ash Candy competed in the U18 Womens’ 1500m. She qualified from her heats and placed seventh in a very physical and fast final. She also ran in the U18 Womens’ 3000m and placed fourth achieving a personal best time.

Year 9 students Chris and Jack Wright both competed in the U18 3000m walk event and achieved personal best times with Chris placing fifth and Jack placing sixth.

Equestrian

Equestrian Western Australia hosted their Interschools Championship events during the April school holidays at the State Equestrian Centre.

Year 8 student Charli Brajkovich competed with her horse Cinnamon in the individual dressage showjumping at 60cm and 70cm.

Charli came home with a second in her 70cm round and seventh in her 60cm round. Charli will now be competing for LaSalle in the eventing stage of Interschool over the weekend of 29 and 30 of May.
