Swans ‘Elevate’ Program

1 June 2023

This Term, some of our students have been learning barista skills in the Swan Districts Social Impact Coffee Van.

The coffee van will be attending community events, businesses and football matches as part of the Swan Districts “Elevate” initiative and their commitment to creating positive connections and having a sustainable impact in the local community.

Our students enjoyed serving members of the community attending the Street Doctor and also enjoyed participating in a range of ‘Resilience’ activities.

These learning experiences provide our students with the opportunity to explore their interest in purposeful skills and helps to support casual work options in the future.

The students absolutely loved the learning experience!

A big thanks to the social impact team at Swan Districts Football Club for creating this community engagement opportunity for our students.

Student reflections

I went to Swan Districts to serve customers and make coffee. I had fun learning about different coffees. I also learnt new skills like communication, computer systems and eftpos machine. It was a great day.  Mason

I knew how to do the coffee machine, but I had never done it in a van before. I practiced my skills to talk to customers and use the computer and eftpos machine for customers to pay. I also learnt how to clean the coffee machine. Sunny

I went down to Swan Districts to learn how to serve people coffee from the van. I took orders and I foamed up the milk. I enjoyed learning how the coffee van works, and it was fun making coffee. It was a nice experience learning how different it was to Cafe De La Salle.  Phoebe

I’ve been working in the Swan Districts Coffee Van serving customers and making the coffee. I enjoyed learning how to make different coffees and how to greet and serve customers. I really liked volunteering and had a lot of fun working with my new friends. Tabitha
