Try-a-Trade training

5 May 2021

As part of our aim to focus on helping our students to ‘Make Connections’, 16 of our Year 10 students,  resplendent in hi-vis and work boots attended the Try-a-Trade training run by Skill Hire in Forrestfield.

Over the three days (May 3-5) students were taken through the processes and activities that would occur on a typical job site. This begun with an induction and safety programme – vital in today’s workplace, followed by the practical component of bricklaying and carpentry.

The students exhibited great team work and work ethic across the three days. Some students even commented that the breaks were too long and they were ready to get back out there and build!

Many thanks to Skill Hire in Forrestfield, in particular Paul and Wayne for their expertise – which included introducing the kids to the Food Truck. Classic student quote of the excursion:

‘I’m kinda getting used to the taste of concrete in my sandwiches’!

Thanks to Ms Dawson our College Careers Counsellor Coordinator for organising such a valuable experience for our Year 10 students to make connections in the community.
