Upcycling projects supporting community

21 March 2025

Our Year 11 and 12 Textiles classes have had a busy and enterprising start to the year with their practical projects. On Tuesday, 18 March, the Year 11 MDT Textile class participated in a fashion design incursion with renowned fashion illustrator Michelle Pike. Their exploration of denim and watercolour techniques showcased their creativity, skill, and passion for design, mixed media and rending techniques.

Year 12 Textiles students have created fleece blankets for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Using donated fabric, they have crafted warm and thoughtful gifts to support those in need during the colder months. This task focused on function and aesthetics, as well as basic textiles sewing techniques.

Our Year 11 Textiles students are to be commended for their creativity and sustainability in their upcycling project. By repurposing chef jackets into aprons, they have given new life to old materials while supporting a remote community’s ‘Dust Up’ sports carnival. The Prepare, Produce Provide team will be delivering the aprons later in the year to the festival in remote WA communities. Prepare Produce Provide was established in 2012 and is a collaboration with many hospitality businesses local schools, teachers and chefs. Our students’ innovative designs and commitment to sustainability is inspiring! Please enjoy the pictures below of some of the upcycling projects mentioned above!
