Wellbeing: Gratitude and Happiness

3 August 2021

Gratitude allows us to recognise the good in our lives, that is always present, occurring each day, we just need to take the time to pay attention to them. For example, you might ask yourself:

  1. What made you smile today?
  2. What did you learn today?
  3. What great thing did you notice about someone today?
  4. Who did you care about today?
  5. Who were you pleased to see today?
  6. What made you smile today?
  7. What went well today?

By being grateful and appreciating the good in our lives on a regular basis, scientific research confirms the following benefits for us:

  • Natural release of endorphins (happy hormones)
  • Significant reduction of stress hormones
  • Greater physical and mental health
  • Increased energy
  • Better sleep
  • Significantly decreases the focus on current difficulties
  • Improves work and family relationships.

So…

Try taking 5 minutes each day to think about what, who and why you are grateful and bask in the happiness of that moment and reap the rewards!
