Year 10 Environment project

23 September 2021
In the last week of Term 3 some of our Year 10 students joined the Susannah Brook Catchment Group in Gidgegannup to assist with planting native seedlings. This activity was part of the Touching Hearts program that all students at the College participate in. Students choose a particular service project where they gain practical experience at being an innovative contributor to our ever-changing world. Our Year 10 students were particularly interested in undertaking an environmental care project and enjoyed working with adult volunteers who share this passion for creation. After hearing a short talk on the history of Susannah Brook and the importance of promoting the growth of native species for the area, students were shown how to plant the seedlings and how to do the somewhat less exciting but equally important task of weeding to protect the seedlings. This was a rewarding and enjoyable day for all and our students made an impact on our local area that will be seen for generations to come.
