Year 12 Biology: Gel Electrophoresis

Our Year 12 ATAR Biology students are currently learning about Biotechnology. During week 1 of Term 2, the students investigated applications such as gel electrophoresis by completing practical experiments in class.

Gel electrophoresis is a procedure used to separate molecules such as DNA by size. The separation of these molecules is achieved by placing them in a gel with small pores and creating an electric field across the gel. Scientists can use this information to determine genetic relationships.
