As part of the Year 7 Japanese Program, students participated in an enriching cultural incursion.
The purpose of this incursion was to learn about Japanese culture and to participate in a number of cultural activities. One of these activities include Taiko Drumming which is a centuries old practice used in religious ceremonies and local festivals.
Simon Vanyai, Director of ‘Taiko On’ led the students through a series of stylised movements and powerful rhythms on the very loud Taiko drums! Not only did this teach students about Japanese festival drumming, it also taught them about synchronised ensemble percussion.
The students had such a fantastic morning, unleashing their samurai spirit! It was such a pleasure having Simon and his team join us on the student’s cultural journey.
