La Salle College is delighted to announce the completion of a refurbishment of the garden space at the St Joseph’s Education Support Centre, creating an engaging outdoor environment that supports student learning, wellbeing, and practical skill development.
The project was made possible through a $40,000 electoral commitment from Steve Catania MLA, the Member for Midland, with funding allocated to La Salle College through the Department of Education. This generous contribution has enabled significant improvements to the outdoor learning and hospitality training facilities available to students.
The refurbishment included the expansion of the garden area located behind the St Joseph’s Education Support Centre, transforming it into an inviting and functional outdoor space. New shade sails have been installed to provide protection from the elements, allowing students to comfortably utilise the area throughout the year. The project also included the installation of new garden beds and irrigation systems, creating opportunities for students to engage in gardening activities and develop practical horticultural skills.
To further enhance the space, outdoor café-style tables and chairs were added, creating a welcoming setting for students, staff, and visitors. A key feature of the project was the opening up of direct ‘shop’ access between the garden area and the Café through a newly installed roller shutter style shop window. This improvement enables students to participate in a more authentic hospitality environment, providing valuable real-world café experience and helping them build confidence, independence, and workplace-ready skills.
The revitalised garden area now serves as a vibrant extension of the learning environment, supporting hands-on education, social interaction, and community engagement. It provides students with a space where they can develop practical skills while enjoying a safe, accessible, and attractive outdoor setting.
