As part of the Year 8 Japanese Programme, students participated in a fun and educational cultural incursion.
The purpose of this incursion was to extend the students’ knowledge about Japanese culture and to participate in a number of cultural activities. These activities included Kabudo (a traditional martial art form) and Bon Odori (a traditional Japanese dance performed at cultural festivals).
Simon Vanyai, Director of ‘Taiko On’ led the students through a series of Kabudo techniques, teaching the students the basics of the artform, coordination, strength and endurance which all play an integral role.
The students had a fantastic afternoon, unleashing their warrior spirit as well as having a laugh learning a popular J Pop dance. It was such a pleasure having Simon and his team join us on the student’s cultural journey.
