Abbey kickstarts her career with Freo

13 April 2026

La Salle College alumni Abbey Jose (Class of 2025) is in the early stages of her Fremantle Dockers & Purple Hands Foundation Sport, Business and Leadership Program. She recently shared with our Careers Counsellor Ms Belinda Sewell what the experience has been like for her.

“When Liam Thompson, Program Manager at SEDA presented the Sport Business Leadership Program to our school last year it appealed to me straight away. I have always had a love and passion for sport and knew I wanted to do something within the industry.

Already, I have experienced so many great opportunities. I have shadowed some amazing high-level coaches in the “Next Generation Academy” looking at athlete development and high performance in AFL. I have also run some of my own coaching sessions that align with the program.

In the next few weeks, I will be assisting with the “Kickability Program” that is crafted to provide equal access for everyone to participate in AFL through inclusion. In addition to all my work experience I will also be assisting in Purple Playground (pre-game activation) before Fremantle Dockers home games.

I have also participated in workshops covering coaching, gambling in sport, personal mission statement, inclusion in sport, connection to culture and Rugby WA. Within the program we have at least one speaker/workshop per week. These workshops gain some great insight into the industry and within all sporting organisations.

The highlights to date include the people that I have met, not only within the class but also within the industry. Everybody around me wants to help and wants the best for me so the experiences and connections I have made have been a huge highlight for me”.

It is so wonderful to hear about the bright start Abbey has made in pursuing her passion to work in the sports industry. Thanks to our Careers team who foster strong partnerships with organisations in the community, like SEDA Group to provide these dynamic learning and career opportunities for our students.
