The excitement is already building in the College iCentre as our annual Inter-House Reading Competition is underway!

Congratulations to McCormack House, who has taken an early lead. There is still plenty of time for every student to help their House, with reading minutes able to be logged until the end of Week 5. Every minute counts as we work towards crowning our 2026 Reading Champions.

Each year, Children’s Book Week celebrates the wonderful world of Australian books, authors and illustrators. Run by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), Book Week encourages a love of reading and recognises the outstanding stories created for young Australians. This year is extra special as the CBCA celebrates 80 years of the Book of the Year Awards.

This year’s theme is “Symphony of Stories”, and celebrations start Tuesday Week 6 this Term.

Students can swing by and enjoy the iCentre decked out in its musical finest. Book Week will consist of colourful costumes, lunchtime competitions, musical crafts and special performances held in the iCentre.

As part of Book Week, on Thursday the 27 of August, students are invited to dress up as a character from their favourite book. The theme for Book Week 2026 is “Symphony of Stories”.

Get into the spirit of book week with the “Compose a Book” competition. Students inspired by one of the CBCA shortlisted books must “compose” a design. This design can come in any form with the only requirement being that it can be submitted by email to the iCentre. The winners will be announced at the end of the book week celebrations.

Parents can help by encouraging children to keep reading at home and reminding them to log their reading minutes before the end of Week 5.
