Following the success of last year’s event, Write a Book in a Day returned bigger and better in 2026, with 120 students from Years 7 to 10 taking on the challenge of creating wonderfully artistic books, all while helping to raise important funds for children’s cancer research.
From 8am until well after the school day, the Gym was transformed into a hive of creativity and collaboration. Students wrote, edited, illustrated, designed and photocopied their hearts out as they worked together to bring their stories to life. Their finished books will be shared with hospitals across Australia, providing stories and moments of joy for children and families undergoing treatment.
The challenge was certainly no small feat. Teams had to combine a range of prompting words, characters and settings into completely original stories, while working against the clock to have their books completed on time. Students elected team leaders and took on different supporting roles, ensuring that every part of the creative process kept moving.
The day was also a wonderful opportunity for students to support one another. Year 11 and 12 General students came down to lend a hand, encouraging the younger writers and helping teams along the way. And, of course, the hard work was fuelled by a delicious lunch and afternoon tea provided by La Salle!
We would like to acknowledge the incredible organisation and dedication of Ms Walker, Ms McCulloch and Ms Louw for running the event, as well as the PE, IT and Maintenance staff for their invaluable support throughout the day.
