Music

At La Salle College, our multifaceted music program develops well-rounded musicians through instrumental lessons, class music, and ensemble participation. Unlike private studios, we integrate theory, aural skills, and performance, ensuring students refine their technique, build confidence, and collaborate effectively. 2026 Year 7/8 Band Scholarship Pathway

The Year 7/8 Band Scholarship Program at La Salle College is a two-year program that nurtures young musicians by providing subsidised instrumental tuition for Band Instruments, Piano and Voice. Selected students participate in Year 7/8 band as well as rotational joint instrumental lessons during school hours, guided by our expert tutors. This pathway provides students with a comprehensive and immersive musical education, combining technical skill development with performance experience, ensemble collaboration, and theoretical knowledge. Applications close on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.

Private Instrumental Tuition Pathway

For students looking to enhance their music education beyond the one-term Year 7 music elective, La Salle College offers private instrumental lessons with our experienced tutors. No prior experience is required; however, all students undertaking private tuition must also participate in the Year 7 Band or their corresponding large ensemble in later years as well as the Allegro Music class in Years 8 and 9. This ensures they experience the full benefits of our multifaceted music program, which includes technical development, ensemble performance, and classroom music theory. Private tuition is a one-year commitment, with the option to continue the following year. Unlike the Scholarship Pathway, these lessons are not subsidised, and families are responsible for the full cost of tuition. For more information or to enrol, see the links below:

Ensemble Participation

Participation in College ensembles is a core requirement for both the Year 7 Band Scholarship and Private Instrumental Tuition pathways. In Year 7, students attend Year 7 Band rehearsals every Thursday from 3:20 – 4:30 pm. As they progress through the program, students are placed in appropriate ensembles, such as Concert Band, Showband, and specialist chamber groups, based on instrument suitability and experience. Some ensembles, such as College Choir and Liturgy Ensemble, are open to students without instrumental tuition, providing further opportunities for musical involvement. However, most instrumental ensembles require students to be enrolled in both instrumental lessons and, in some cases, the Music Allegro elective. Join us on a dynamic musical journey at La Salle College, where students develop into well-rounded musicians through lessons, ensemble participation, and performance opportunities. For more information, please contact our Director of Music, Ms Samantha Ashman, on (08) 9449 0601 or email  [email protected].
