On August 15, students from our Year 11 Modern History classes visited the Holocaust Institute of Western Australia to consolidate their understanding about the atrocities that occurred in Germany during 1933 to 1945.
They participated in the Courage to Remember educational workshop to complement their studies this semester into Nazism in Germany.
On arrival, students listened to an overview of life in Nazi Germany including living conditions in Jewish Ghettos and the history of concentration camps. They also heard second generation survivor testimony of one family’s experience of the Holocaust.
The excursion was a challenging but valuable experience for our studnets which reinforced the need to preserve history and to remember the lived experiences of others. It also provided students with a greater perspective on life, conflict and human dignity.Â
